The Execution Table, getting ready for the mad onslaught. This week is going to be a crazy, the drawings, my cousin's wedding, Mob manning, Dahlan Francesca Vol.2 and Republic Poly Talk. Hope can pull all through...

Only recently I realised Ka5 called him Sam, and I called him Kootch. So we christened him Samuel Kootch, Paula is quite arrogant, Sam Kootch can sometimes be super klutz.

A new addition to the KYTV HQ, she came in and slept on Ka5's table. Ka5 called her Polar as in polar bear. But she look more like a Paula...

The Mystery Behind A Pair of CONGOS/CONGAS

I think I can be quite a dumb-ass sometimes, or klutsy with my tongue.
A conversation on the phone for Dahlan Francesca's technical rider:

Woman: So what other instruments do you need?
Me: Djembe and stuff, with percussive mics...
Woman: Can you please elaborate the instruments you need?
Me: Oh yes, I need a pair of CONGOS please...
Woman: ....
Me: ....
Woman: You mean a pair of Congas?
Me: Oh sorry, yes Congas...

I need to learn all these basic music instrument request, before I start asking for a Bello instead of a Cello.

Relic from The Past

I wrote these in my blog 3 years ago...how life has moved on to a new phase.

29th March 2002

Friday, woke up in the afternoon....the first thing I tried was to play the guitar and sang some of Tiramisu songs, yes true I'm worried, very much worried....theres always this problem of when I sing and play guitar, the energy is lost, Tiramisu's energy is lost....and my energy is diverted to playing the songs right, perhaps it was too sudden for me....had to re-select some of the songs for YMS gig., me and Aaron were at Tan Tock Seng, saw Jeremy with that face looking like Stallone, man he was depressed, I didnt know what to say....but he will be out for now....and we have a couple of performances coming....there's an urgent need to find a contingency plan...Evening time had to gather the rest of them @ The Pete, 4 of us... energy was different......@ this point in time, my heart was in tears .... music means a lot to me, I didnt know why I was feeling sad...maybe because Jeremy's not there at the Pete, I donno why.....I have decided I have to sing without playing guitar, the songs are meant to be sang with gyrated movements.....I was too damn tired..I had to go home......collapsed on the bed .....I was so tired that I didn't think of anything else....sleep was all it takes..............
.....we are all wimps.....Life is unpredictable....

If you are bored and have so much time to download, more willing to see the stuff KYTV has been doing, go and get some of them here:

The Birth of Francesca and other Melodies

Well, finally I have managed to release the guitar playing demon in me at Hideout last night. I wouldn't say it was a pow wow performance, but Dancing Queen turned out pretty ok and it felt fantastic with the great sing along. My dad used to play it all the time in the house back then and recently I heard U2 did the exact cover.

Special thanks to Joe and Pat (chromatic tuner) for the technical assistance, and I need to go for a guitar/singing training. Pat did a cover of Violent Femmes, 'Blister In The Sun'. Reminded me so much of Art College days.

After Hideout, trooped down to Home for PopTart, and met loads of people I have not met for years. BMT mates, former working colleagues, school mates who introduced to their new collegues who were trying to form a new art collective.

But I discovered a new method of 'polite pogoing', you tap anyone on the shoulder and you borrow their shoulders and do a quick mini pogo up as high as possible. Its fun, addictive and contagious. The things you do on a crazy weekend.

Will be heading down to Theatreworks Garage sale in a bit, will try and find nice costumes or such. Got loads of things to do for next week, its going to be intense drawing and gathering new materials for Dahlan Francesca next Volume.

Dahlan Francesca at Hideout Tonight!

I am all jittery and slippery right now, the rehearsal the other night was pretty alright. Sab is having a sore throat and I'm having this croaky feeling. It rained this morning...I had good rest...

We spent the whole night watching Kylie Minogue live in Sydney. Well, surprisingly I enjoyed it, not because of the skin baring and scanty girl dancers but the whole spectacular set of the concert. There's this huge ship like or love boat structure on the stage, her repertoire of 25 songs with 5 costume changes and with the company of live musicians. There are some thing or two we can learn from them, the primary essence of a spectacle.

My IBook failed on me a few days back while I was doing work, got to send them to the Mac hospital soon, I guess knowing me, I love to ignore all those warning signs and carried on using the laptop. It was loaded with photo and music files...

Tonight will be the night of chill out lo-fi rock at its best I hope...see you at Hideout...

Sedated Weekend Romping

Why do we find ourselves trapped in within ourselves not knowing what comes after tomorrow? They said its all about cause and effect, you are your own enemy and all that jazz. What do you do when your friend has a van and its a weekend? Just jump on the bandwagon and just go wherever it may roam.

Watching Moods at Alliance Frong Say was a dud, their energy was as low as the carpeted floor of the auditorium, like slaved zombies on bad chemical trip with metal chains enforcement in persuasion of dark melody.

Straight after that, we rushed into Wan's van and to Home Club or Force Vomit soundcheck and we kids just hang out in the vicinity like self-proclaimed roadies. And last night too was my virgin visitation to the much talk about club called Coco Latte, it was their anniversary, they had loads of freebies. The mayhem, scavenging free loaders decided to patronise the 'super-cool' place.

Back to Home again, I beginning to like this idea of friend + + guest thingy, and the best thing is you don't have to be shy about it, the best thing to get into a place of merry and dandy is when its free. Well, you know you don't have to fork out on admission vices, as there are many other hedonistic vices to pay in the future.

The reason for me to be at Home was to catch KLPHQ, post-rock/new-rock, to appreciate post-rock or whatever you want to call it, is to let the sound caress you from bottom and straight up to your brain, and when you feel both your rectum and ear drums vibrating, and they trigger these visual imageries of urban decay/urban madness/horrible waste land....that's where you feel like shit, yes, everybody in this room is suffering from depressive malfunction one way or another. Pow Wow! Yes, I am still alive!

The new rock is without its roll. So what's on next week?

Saturday! Pure Joy! Pure Joy!

My girlfriend told me I look pretty lost these days...am I? I can't help the fact I am feeling like a spacehog, floating somewhere in between the parallels of the unknown. The other day I was walking down the hill near my place, saw this text on this lttle girl's T-shirt, ' In order to realise your dream, you have to wake up!'. Poignant and sharp.

Some projects coming up for me, collaborating with an architect firm to execute a visionary drawing of the new arts school, yes they are building a new school for those who are deeply interested in taking up art as a career. You know like the sports school, we have the arts school ladies and gentleman!

And of course, facilitating a 3-day graffiti workshop with a secondary school for the upcoming concourse exhibition at the esplanade. My side-project Dahlan Francesca Vol1. performing next week at Hideout, a short film and a long one with Adam and Lilin respectively. Another artist presentation at Republic poly...hmmm, loads of things to do...

Do I look lost or am I losing it? We will get to the bottom of this, maybe its my hair, or this expression...I should look like Adrien Brody, no, maybe Luke Perry...I don't know, or could it be the goatee? What goatee? I don't even have a goatee.

Whatever... going to catch Moods at Allliance Front Sey and to Home for the RNDM gig. Ok, should be a blast!

Aching Neck and Shoulder Blade

What a wholesome week!
Now back to administrative action of writing beautiful letters (begging) to the almighty council in the pursuit of new discoveries. Hate it or love it? I have to do it, because in life you have to raise your butt to a required height and get spanked, love it or hate it, you have to learn how to love it, because loving is all it takes.

I have a question: What has drum and bass got to do with the forbidden dance (Lambada, Dirty Dancing, Foxtrot or whatever) ? The answer is I don't know. Last night, got down to Home Club as my body felt the internal reconciliation with the sonic aggressiveness of drum and bass, I witnessed a sad massacre of 2 young bodies intimately colliding with each other in sexual gyrating mode like snails without shells.

SPACEBAR was great, we moved under those lights like crazy munchkins, loads of sake, rum and rump pump pump, cheap highs and liquidated motion, the best way to create hyper sensation in an unavoidable space into the void of a familiar terrain.

Last Friday's gig at Rouge felt explosive, maybe because of those monster sub-woofers near the stage, but I was terribly sick, and to tell you the truth, my back is aching, and my neck feels like being braced with a bronze lock.

What comes after Next?

Life has been slow, really, I am beginning to feel the lack-of-not-doing-anything coming to me again. Normally they come once a while, but this time round, they are like coming to me constantly. Like black arrows of uncertainty...the need to excite me all over again. What comes after next?

For the past couple of months, I have been attending numerous weddings, friends and relatives. Wonderful, hooray, yahoo and yippee dandy...going to wedding celebration is not the same as going to gigs I supposed. But still weddings are weddings, smiling faces and spectacular deco. But what comes after next?

I have written a few words to a couple of new songs in my head, but I still have this fear of playing with an instrument in public, the fear of screwing up the chords and trying to cover up with my singing. Not that as if I am a good singer, I have been performing as a singer, or maybe I am a private investigator. I have been trying my best to keep positive about things in life, but no, negativity seems to be an overwhelming reaction to many of my thoughts. Maybe I am starting to become cynical about everything around me, I start to ponder about this complicated existence.

Let's get up and dance, do something...kill these lazy bones, find the youth in my nerve system. Let's start all over again before we surrender....smear my impulse...please...

Kuala Lumpur: The Unseen and Foreseen

The weekend in KL for the StopOver event was something I have never experienced before, I have been to KL so many times but the event last week changed somewhat of my regular impression of Kuala Lumpur. I beginning to realise no matter how many times you have been to another city, things will not be complete without having to hang out with youths of that particular state.

Only in Kuala Lumpur you can have a huge selection of great cuisine and cheap smokes. I believe I have gained a few Kilos, and I need to work out soon before I turn into Jabba the Hut.

From Friday till the last hour in KL, it was a series of sleepless nights and teh-tarik madness, with a whole group of people that I have not met before. We went to The Loft at Zouk on Friday night, great music, wild delinquents doing their mad dance.

The following night, we ended up in Genting Highlands at 4 am in the morning, it was Aswad's crazy idea, as Genting was just around the corner from where he lives. The drive up was pretty wicked, the tyres gave out some smoke. We got up the highlands took a pee and had latte at StarFucks. Strange but true, weird and crazy.

Last night in KL, we ended up hanging out at UBU's rooftop, a great place to chill actually, at the end of the day Performance Art is about the whole experience as artists. About 18 performances were executed in within UBU's compund, loads of brutal action of licking, sucking, dripping blood, teh tarik action, nakedness, butt crack showing, mannequin, it was hot, intense and deliberate.
